GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES LEASE SALE IN GULF OF MEXICO FOR OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENT

By TONI ELLINGTON

Last month, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (“BOEM”) announced that 21.8 million acres would be offered for oil and gas leasing in the Gulf of Mexico this year. The area available for lease is located 9 to 250 miles off the coast of Texas in water depths ranging from 16 to 10,975 feet.

The lease sale, which will be Lease Sale 246, will offer available unleased areas in the western Gulf of Mexico for oil and gas activity. The lease sale will take place in New Orleans in August 2015.

The lease sale is a part of the Outer Continental Shelf 2012-2017 Five Year Oil and Gas easing Program.
