KEYSTONE PIPELINE PASSES SENATE

By TONI ELLINGTON

After failing to get the votes needed to push the Keystone XL Pipeline proposal to a final vote on Monday of this week, on Thursday, January 29, 2015, the Senate approved the pipeline project.  The bill passed on a 62 to 36 vote.

The House of Representatives passed its own Keystone Pipeline bill on January 9, 2015.  The House will now work with the Senate to prepare a bill to be sent to President Obama.  President Obama has threatened to veto the Keystone Pipeline bill.

The Keystone XL Pipeline is a project of TransCanada Corporation.  If constructed, the pipeline will stretch nearly 1,700 miles and deliver approximately 830,000 barrels of Canadian tar sands crude oil daily from western Canada to Steele City, Nebraska, where it will connect with existing pipeline to deliver the oil to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico.
