Water traveling through polluted areas, landfills and chemical plants gets dragged around into nearby lakes and rivers and thus into the water supply eventually. Lakes and rivers in turn, absorb it through plants, fish and other organisms and the cycle continues for some time.<br /><br />Active prevention of further contamination is absolutely crucial and for New Orleans especially because of its peculiar (and most vulnerable) geographical location. Even if all the monitoring and updated regulations bring the state to the very top in terms of quality of water supply, this should set a good example for others as well.
